How Green is Your Hybrid?
Are you trying to feel less guilty driving your car? Ever wondered what your next one should be? Maybe it should a Petrol/Electric Hybrid, a diesel, bio diesel or simply a small 4 cylinder? An article titled, “How Green is Your Hybrid” in the May 2007 addition of the Royal Auto magazine brought out by RACV revealed some startling new evidence. You can decide what might be right after analyzing it. Here are the findings ….
RACV calculated, “The whole of life cost of a vehicle”
Since the figures are not related to the running costs, it simply explains that there is more to consider than the day to day costs. . The figures represent cents per km.
Jeep Wrangler was number one on the list at 57.43 cents and second was Toyota Yaris at 66.5 cents. Hummer came in at number 30. Interestingly the Honda Civic Hybrid came in at number 73 costing 305.24 cents and Toyata Prius Hybrid at number 74 costing 306.75 cents.
Consideration needs to be given to the cost and the energy it takes in manufacturing and the inevitable recycling of it some years later. While a hybrid uses less fossil fuel to run, recycling a Hybrid is environmentally expensive to make and to recycle, mainly because of the batteries.
